In 2008, Michael O’Shaughnessy was named “Alumnus of the Decade” for the College of Education for the 80’s at the University of Central Florida. He graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. While at UCF he was a member of the 1979 inaugural football team where his fellow teammates selected him as “Most Spirited Player”. He was also a member of the baseball team at UCF. After graduation, Michael was the assistant offensive line coach for the Knights in 1981. Michael has also served as radio color commentator for University of Central Florida football from 1990-94. He is a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity – Delta Rho chapter, UCF. Michael is also a founding member and the inaugural President of the Varsity Club. In 2006-2007 he served as Chairperson for the Golden Knights Club and led their highest fundraising effort at that time. Michael is currently on the Board of Directors of the Golden Knights Club.
Presently, Michael is working with the University of Central Florida athletic department as the creator of the “Sword & Shield Walkway”, a memorial footpath and recognition garden honoring prestigious members to the UCF football program. He will also be spotlighted in “UKnighted”, a documentary project for UCF TV. (See enclosed DVD) Michael was inducted in the UCF Athletics hall of fame in 2010.
In his personal life, Michael O’Shaughnessy is an avid adventurer and Ironman athlete. He holds 4 World Records including two time Guinness World Records for paddle boarding.
